Import of Durable Products

In July a relatively moderate increase was seen in some of the importation of durable goods, compared to the same month last year. This is due to the deviation cased in the importation of July 2004 due to the strike at the ports. The cumulative value of importation from the beginning of the year of house hold goods increased by 15%, compared to the same period last year. The value of importation of entertainment electronics increased from the beginning of the year by 22%.

Importation of refrigerators increased in July 2005 by 7% compared to July 2004, importation of clothes dryers increased by 27% and washing machines by 8%, for dish washers, a sharp increase was seen compared to July 2004, at a rate of 70%. Importation of DVDs decreased by 25% and videos by 12%, importation of televisions increased by 16%.

The value of house hold electrical products totaled 20 million dollars in July 2005, an increase of 16% compared to 2004.

The total value of entertainment electronic totaled 27 million dollars, an increase of 28 compared to July 2004.

Vehicles

In July 2005, the vehicle sector continued to stand our compared to importation of other products due to the beginning of the year of manufacturing.

Total importation of vehicles in July 2005 was 14,044 passenger vehicles compared to 10,630 in July 2004, an increase of approximately 32%. In July 2005, importation was high, due to the low importation noted in July of 2004 due to the strike at the ports (in August 2004, importation of vehicles was high and completed the low importation of July 2004).

Importation of commercial vehicles totaled 590 vehicles, a decrease of 39% compared to July 2004. This is an expected decrease due to the fact that in May vehicles were imported at numbers equal to several months due to the expected cancellation of VAT.

Total revenue from purchase tax from vehicles (passenger and commercial in July 2005 totaled 620 million NIS , compared to 480 NIS in July 2004.

The seasonality which exits in importation of vehicles in the beginning of the manufacturing year beginning in May, is known and expected. Therefore in the months of March-April a sharp decrease is seen and in May and July and a bit of July an increase is seen.

In January-July 2005, importation of passenger vehicles totaled 79,092 vehicles, an increase of 3.3%, compared to the same time last year. Importation of commercial vehicles saw an increase of 37%. In January-July 2005, importation of vehicles totaled 8,665 compared to 6,300 during July 2004.

Miscellaneous

Importation of cigarettes decreased by 0.5% in July 2005 compared to last year.

The Total value of importation in July 2005 totaled 2.9 Billion Dollars – an increase of 36% compared to 2004.
